Headsails
Rogue could just build you a new version of the headsail you already have... but we don't!
At Rogue we are all about lifting the performance of your boat, whether it's a racer or cruiser. We will talk to you about any existing sail and what you like or don't like about it and what changes we would recommend.
Key factors we will discuss before designing and building a new sail include:
Intended use
This impacts on design and fabric selection. A offshore cruiser will need a heavier stronger sail than a harbour racer and a shorthanded boat needs to ensure sails can be managed and handled easily
Fabric
There are many options from dacron to laminated membrains each with varied characteristics. We will discuss the pros and cons of each option in regards to weight, shapeholding, lifespan (both shapeholding and ultimate), cost and performance. Click HERE to read Josh's article on fabrics
Shape / Size / Profile
We will look at how we can optimise and improve the shape size and profile of the sail. Are you subject to class rules or IRC rules? Is the boat underpowered? Do you struggle to point upwind? We can advise on sail options and equipment such as inhaulers to lift your performance.
Battens
With modern sailplans trending to higher aspect non-overlapping headsails, battens can make a massive difference to performance through sailshape and can also increase the durability of a sail. There are also some batten options that work with furling sails. We can discuss all options to work out what is best for your boat
Furling systems
We can build a sail to work with your existing furling system or suggest what new options would work best for you.
Reefing Systems
Reefing headsails are one of our specialities! Especially for shorthanded sailing, the ability to reef a headsail as opposed to changing to a smaller one can take less time and be easier and more efficient. For a fraction more cost we can make one sail do the job of two!
Budget
We will discuss options in relation to performance, initial cost and lifespan to ensure you get great value from your sail.
